Description
AVID is an in-school academic support program for grades 9-12 that prepares students for four-year college and university eligibility and success. AVID targets students in the academic middle. AVID students must commit to enrollment in a rigorous college preparatory sequence of courses. Students will learn and apply study skills and learning strategies to improve performance in their other classes. Note taking, outlining, writing, speaking, reading, test strategies and self-awareness are stressed, including college research activities and SAT and ACT test preparation. Students will be coached individually and in study groups by specially trained tutors. AVID's systematic approach increases students' chance for success in four-year colleges while supporting school-wide and districtwide learning and performance goals.
