Description

This is the second year of the two-year IB Visual Arts Standard Level (SL) course, designed for students to consolidate their artistic journey, refine their technical skills, and achieve their artistic intentions. Building upon the foundational investigations and studio practice of SL1, students in SL2 will focus intensely on art-making as inquiry across the three core areas: Create, Connect, and Communicate.Students will transition from broad experimentation to deep, sustained, and focused practical application, concentrating on the final production and presentation of their work. Through independent research, students will deepen their ability to analyze and compare artworks from diverse cultural and historical contexts, making explicit links between their own practice and the work of other artists. Students will develop sophisticated skills in selecting, presenting, and curating their own work, articulating their artistic intentions and the coherence of their body of work through a formal exhibition. The primary focus of SL2 is the development and submission of the three mandatory external and internal assessment tasks. High levels of self-management, independence, and sustained commitment to both studio practice and written research are essential for success.
